What is a “flu bomb”? The 7-ingredient recipe ‘eradicates’ the disease

When a virus is waging war on your body, a “flu bomb” may be the answer to wiping it out.

So says Australian alternative health care advocate Barbara O’Neill, whose recipe has gone viral under – and beyond.

The easy-to-make concoction requires just seven ingredients, and she promises that drinking it every day can cut down on the flu, a cold, a sinus infection or just about any respiratory illness.

“This is your natural antibiotic, this drink,” she said. “When someone has bronchitis or sinus [infection] or pneumonia, they get the flu shot.”

The first ingredient is garlic, and she advises drinking as much as you can handle, calling it a “natural antibiotic.”

Garlic contains the antibiotic allicin, which is released when a clove is chewed or crushed. It has been used to fight disease for thousands of years, although research on its effectiveness in preventing and fighting colds is limited.

One study found that people who took a garlic supplement for 12 weeks during the cold season had fewer colds than those who didn’t — and their colds went away faster than those who didn’t take garlic.

O’Neill’s flu bomb also contains eucalyptus oil, which she said is “good for clearing the airways.” Eucalyptus is actually present in many cold and flu remedies because it can relieve congestion and loosen phlegm.

Other ingredients include ginger and honey, both natural expectorants, and as much cayenne pepper as you can handle, as the capsaicin in the pepper has been found to ease congestion and sneezing.

O’Neill says to drink it three times a day when symptoms appear, “and often, after two or three days, that’s enough.”

Ingredients:

  • 1 clove of garlic, crushed
  • 1/4 teaspoon ginger, minced
  • 1 drop of eucalyptus oil or tea tree oil
  • red pepper
  • the juice of a lemon
  • 1 teaspoon of honey
  • 1/2 cup hot water

While the recipe as a whole has not been the subject of any scientific study, anecdotally it has many fans who rave about its effectiveness.

“That’s the only thing that really gets me when I’m sick. It basically makes the flu go away,” said influencer Jasmine Dinis.

“I was so sick… I got this… in 3 days it felt like I wasn’t sick at all,” wrote another TikToker.

“One of these a day will fix you right up,” Ebby Moyer said. “I swear if you use this consistently from the moment your symptoms start – you will see.”
